IMPERIALISM - We Didn't Finish and in 2021, we didn't play; Games like it that you can get an play

Every year I have at least a few students who really enjoy the Imperialism games. While I designed it starting in college in 1987, I built many of its ideas on existing mechanics. The list below are of games with either a similar theme or mechanic. Note: Twilight Struggle is the most similare as adopted both the board layout - though not unique to that game - and the influence v. military structure.

    1. Twilight Struggle (GMT Games): Cold War two person/team simulation
    2. Root (Leder Games) Woodland Creatures at War
    3. C.O.I.N. Series of Games (GMT Games): Counter insurgency system of games that includes everything from American Independence, the War in Vietnam, and India/Pakistan independence
    4. Dune (Gale Force 9)
    5. Lords of Waterdeep (Wizards of the Coast): Card drafting and worker placement game

Upcoming Games

  • Look for updates over the Summer of 2021.

Game Closet

  • The following games are available in CT214 for play during any Study Break session.

Century: Golem Edition Century: Golem Edition is a re-themed version of Century: Spice Road set in the world of Caravania. In Century: Golem Edition, players are caravan leaders who travel the famed golem road to deliver crystals to the far reaches of the world. Each turn, players perform one of four actions:
    • Establish a trade route (by taking a market card)
    • Make a trade or harvest crystals (by playing a card from hand)
    • Fulfill a demand (by meeting a victory point card's requirements and claiming it)
    • Rest (by taking back into your hand all of the cards you've played)

The last round is triggered once a player has claimed their fifth victory point card, then whoever has the most victory points wins.

Munchkin Munchkin is a satirical card game based on the clichés and oddities of Dungeons and Dragons and other role-playing games. Each player starts at level 1 and the winner is the first player to reach level 10. Players can acquire familiar D&D style character classes during the game which determine to some extent the cards they can play. How to Play

Legendary: Marvel Deck Building Game Legendary: Marvel Deck Building Game In this game for 1-5 players, each player starts with their own deck of basic Hero cards. At the start of your turn, you play the top card of the Villain Deck, showing how Villains invade the city, capture Bystanders, and create special events. Then you play Hero cards from your hand to generate Attack, Recruit Points, and special abilities. You attack with your Heroes to defeat Villains. You use Recruit Points to recruit better Heroes to add to your deck.

Whenever your deck runs out of cards, you shuffle your discard pile to make a new deck, including all the new Heroes you recruited. This way your deck gets stronger and stronger over time. Build up enough Power and you can defeat the evil Mastermind! But be careful: if the players don’t defeat the Mastermind quickly enough, then the Mastermind will complete their dark Scheme and win the game.
