• The MacArthur Choral Department consists of a diverse group of ensembles that perform a variety of vocal and choral literature. In addition to ensemble participation, students have the opportunity and are strongly encouraged or required to further their musical experiences through participation in solo vocal competitions and additional activities throughout the year.

    Mac Choir offers a variety of classes to meet the needs of all MacArthur students.

    Non-Competitive Choirs:

    Camerata (7th Period)
    Camerata is an all female ensemble for beginning singers in grades 9-12. Camerata is an open enrollment ensemble and non-competitive choir.

    Men’s Choir (2nd Period)
    Men’s Choir is an all male ensemble for beginning and intermediate singers in grades 9-12. Men’s choir is an open enrollment ensemble and non-competitive choir.


    Competitive Choirs:

    Treble Choir (5th Period)
    Treble Choir is an all female ensemble for singers of all ability levels in 9th grade. Membership is based on recommendation from middle school directors and eligibility history. This choir does participate in TMEA Region Auditions, Solo and Ensemble and UIL Competitions.

    Cantate (3rd Period)
    Cantate is an all female ensemble for advanced singers in grades 10-12. Membership is based on audition. This choir does participate in TMEA Region Auditions, UIL Solo and Ensemble and UIL Concert and Sightreading Competitions.

    Concert Chorale (4th Period)
    Concert Chorale is the varsity mixed ensemble for advanced singers. Membership is based on audition. Students in this choir are also members of the Varsity Men and Varsity Women choirs. This choir does participate in TMEA Region Auditions, UIL Solo and Ensemble and UIL Concert and Sightreading Competitions.

    A Cappella Ensembles:

    Aperture (8th Period)
    Aperture is the JV a cappella ensemble which performs a variety of styles of music (pop, barbershop, jazz, etc.).  Membership is based on audition and members must be enrolled in a competitive or non-competitive choir.  This group will rehearse during their class period and will have several performances outside of school throughout the year.  

    Premiere & Final Cut (1st Period)
    Premiere and Final Cut (PFC) are the small advanced ensembles which perform a variety of styles of music (pop, barbershop, jazz, etc.). Membership is based on audition and members must be enrolled in Concert Chorale. This group has many outside performances and regulations beyond the requirements of Concert Chorale.
