Hello, my name is Hannah Baic and I teach 8th grade science at Lopez Middle School. I was born and raised in a small town in Northern Michigan. I graduated from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) with a BS in Science/Education. After graduating from GVSU, I took an out-of-state job in Utah, where I taught 7th, 8th, and 9th grade science for three years. Then, in 2017, I moved to San Antonio where I live with my husband, who is a Software Engineer for HEB. I am excited to be part of the staff at Lopez and look forward to another year!

National Junior Honors Society (NJHS)
The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle-level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.
At Lopez, NJHS is for 8th Grade students. 7th Grade students interested in joining will apply during their second semester of their 7th grade year through an application process. The application includes the following:
- Completing an application (includes written essay and letter of recommendation)
- Grade Check (unweighted GPA of 90 or higher)
- Citizenship grade check
- No suspensions/disciplinary actions
- Teacher Recommendation Evaluation
Overall, the application evaluates students on the five pillars of NJHS, which are scholarship, service, citizenship, leadership, and character. Individuals meeting the requirements above and met the minimum score on the evaluation rubric of their application are inducted in May of their 7th grade year to participate as members during their 8th grade year.
