Mrs. Azille

Hello!  Welcome back Driscoll Defenders!  I am Mrs. Azille.

I love reading, writing, going to the beach, my family, meeting new people, setting challenges for myself, and helping others.  One of my favorite poems is "Success" by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Another one that I love is "Nothing Gold Can Stay" Read them and let's talk :)

Last year was simply amazing!  I loved the 90 minute block that only 6th grade got to experience. The extended time to dig deeper into instruction allowed students to strenghten their reading and writing skills!  This year I will be teaching 7th grade English and Reading.  I am very excited because I get to have many of my students from last year in my class again and I get to meet knew students as well!

Although class periods will be shorter than the block, students will continue to be immersed in reading and writing and all things involved in English Language Arts.  We are taking instruction to the next level as our entire campus is focusing on the growth and success of every student. I am on team 7X and we are determined to see every student grow.  This year, we are utilizing our SMART class more strategically to extend core academic skills and build tutoring time into the day for students because we know how busy families are.  In fact, there are so many opportunities for students to get the support they need, IF they want it, that I believe every student can achieve "A" status.  This year, I am pushing students to strive for more than just passing the class, and to aim for excellence!   Each day, through the workshop model, students will work on sharpening critical thinking, formal writing, and communication skills.  We will be incorporting multi-modes of technology to sharpen those 21st century digital literacy skills as well.

This year in ELAR, students will take two STAAR tests: writing and reading.  My students were very successful on the reading STAAR last year, and I will work hard to inspire their love of writing this year too!  That won't be difficult for me because I love to write.

I am an author.  My first book is titled The Adventures of Mr. Turtle.  I am currently working on my second book.

I love learning!  I have an English degree from UMass Boston.  I have a Master's  degree of Education in Leadership from the University of the Incarnate Word.  I am currently a doctoral candidate at Liberty University.  I am preparing to serve in school administration.  Last year I was accepted into the NEISD Leadership Program which trains teachers to become principals.  It is a one year program.  I am very excited to see where this jouney takes me.  This is my 16th year in education.  I have enjoyed my time with students and parents immensely.  I have taught all grades from pre-K to seniors in high school.

I am the English and Reading department chair.  I also serve as an instructional coach, providing support and cheering our amazing teachers on.  We do have talented teachers teaching at our school! I am so honored to be a part of the Driscoll family.   My son Sean is now a 6th grader here. (How did that sneak up on me so fast?)  My how time flies!

All together, we have 5 children: two adult sons, Richie and AJ, Sean, who is in 6th grade, a daughter who just graduated high school, and our little princess, four year old, Ally. (She is the original Boss Baby).  Richie graduated from UTSA and is now working for Amazon in Seattle.  AJ is in the Airforce.

We have an Olde English Bulldog named Oreo and our pet turtle, who is a Yellow Belly Slider.

My husband is a realtor and I am thankful for his flexible schedule.  (Sometimes I forget my lunch and he brings it to me at school.) He is originally from Dominica.  Our family enjoys island music and Carribean food.

I look forward to creating meaningful moments and writing wonderful stories with my students this year!

Be sure to sign up for See Saw once I send the QR code home with your child!  It's a great way for us to communicate and for you to see their class work.

Yours Truly,

Mrs. Azille
