'We either make ourselves MISERABLE or we make ourselves STRONG. The amount of work is the same." Carlos Castenada
My name is Brooke Williams, and I included the above quote because I believe it's true. I'm a mother, wife, sister, friend, and 6th grade English/Language Arts teacher at Bush Middle School. I've been through many ups and downs in my life and am happy to say that with the the hard work I've put in during the difficult times, I'm far from living a miserable exisitence... to the contrary, I'm stronger and happier than ever.
I grew up in San Antonio under the love and attention of some wonderful N.E.I.S.D. teachers and schools. I went to Coker Elementary, Eisenhower Middle, and Churchill High School. I attended Baylor University and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Education. In 2012, I received a Master's Degree in Leadership & Policy Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio. This is my 20th year as a teacher, and my 9th year at Bush; I'm proud of my profession and extremely dedicated to the students and families I work with each year.
The best part of my life, besides my job, is my family! My husband, Chris Williams, is a superlative father, husband, man of faith, AND '42' player (you Aggies may get it). We have a blended family consisting of two assiduous parents and four incredible children...Daisy is our oldest, & she's a ray of sun wherever she goes. She's beginning her 2nd year at Texas Tech University and stays busy as a member of the Chi Omega sorority and keeping up her grades (Dean's list ;)) as she works towards becoming a midwife. Will is next. He's beginning his freshman year at Reagan High School and is an impressive athlete in a variety of sports- specifically football; I'm looking forward to watching his games at the high school level. Ella is third in line... She's witty, clever, and wise beyond her years. She's a 6th grader at Alamo Heights Junior School even though I hoped she'd join me at Bush; regardless, she'll do well wherever she goes because she's amazing! Last but not least is our baby girl Lucy! I'd compare her to a room full of bubbles... sparkly, dancing, bubbles of all shapes and sizes. She's going into her third grade year at Woodridge Elementary School and plans to play soccer in the fall.
My family is amazing because we collectively work hard to be STRONG together and independently. We don't whine, focus on the negative, or waste time with people that do. We smile, laugh, ENJOY life and remain grateful for our many blessings; we're a pretty happy bunch.
I'm looking forward to this school year and getting to know my new students. We'll read about interesting people, exciting places, new ideas, and some great stories. We'll write about the places we've been, the experinces we've had, the ideas we'd like to share, and the things we're learning about ourseleves. I hope you'll embrace the gift of written words and join me in learning more about the world - and yourself- in a new way...
