Ms. Heidi Myklebust
Thrilled to be part of the Rattler Nation!!
So, a little about me...I received my BS in Kinesiology at Tarleton State University where I played basketball with the TexAnn's (presently changed to the Texans). I received my teaching certification through the University of Texas at El Paso. I started teaching and coaching in 1999. Most of my career has been just that, teaching and coaching until I was encouraged by one of my co-teachers, Karen Blevins, who I am so grateful for every day, to take my Art Exam to become certified to teach art. It has been my love since I was a little kid. (Yes there was a time when I was little.;)) After passing my art test, I began teaching art in El Paso, Texas while pursuing a Graphic Design Degree. Even though I left before I was able to complete my second degree, my journeys have led me back home to San Antonio and I couldn't be happier to be back. So fortunate to be in my 11th year with the district and my 12th year teaching art. My 22 years of experience have led me to where I belong, in the art classroom. This year marks my 12th year of teaching art, where has the time gone?

My favorite part of being an art educator is being able to see the moment of realization in a student, that they can do something that they didn't know they had the ability to do. The moment when they learn to solve a problem in a novel way, or communicate a thought visually based on personal experiences or feelings. There are so many things going in to art rather than just making something look cool. Teaching the students to access that deeper meaning and using their art as communication connects in so many areas of their lives rather than just "drawing a pretty picture." Pride in creating a unique piece of artwork, managing their time, it all plays a part and can be taken with them beyond the walls of the art classroom.
I have two amazing children who seriously make me proud every single day. My daughter is in her senior year in college and about to start applying to vet school. My son is a freshman at Pieper High School and ready for the football season!...They are truly my inspiration, daily, to do and be better. I learn so darn much from them! (Proud Momma)
