Mrs. Tanya Sankey

Welcome to Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr. Middle School! My name is Tanya Sankey, and I am a 6th grade ELAR teacher. This 2022 - 2023 school year marks my 28th year in education. Fun Fact- I opened the school in 2006, so I'm an original "Hard Hat" as we are sometimes called. 

My amazing teaching career began in 1995 in Fort Stockton, Texas. I was afforded the opportunity to teach and coach in my own hometown, so it was an exciting experience for me. After a few short years in Fort Stockton, a door opened up in the South Texas area, so I decided to spread my wings and leave my immediate family behind. During my career, I have taught and coached for Seguin I.S.D. and Driscoll Middle School. In 2006, I was hired to teach 8th grade English at Harris Middle School. Since I have been on staff, I have taught G/T English, 6th-8th grade ELAR, and Reading Acceleration. Currently, I teach 6th grade ELAR Block. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English from Sul Ross State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University in Austin.

I have a gorgeous extended family that takes my breath away. When I have free time, you might find me reading, writing and revising my work, perhaps baking a pie or decorating a cake, hanging out with my family, or chatting with family and friends.  

I am thrilled about this school year. All I can say is...We are going to rock. We are Harris Hawks! With hard work, there are NO limits!
