Coach Tamara Torru
The 2021-2022 school year is my 12th year coaching, 8th year in teaching, and my 4th year at MacArthur High School as the Head Girls Basketball Coach and Health Teacher.
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and played college basketball at The University of North Texas. I played basketball there for 4 years while earning my bachelors in Sociology. After graduation, I was also able to obtain my Masters of Science in Health as the graduate assistant coach and director of basketball operations at Texas Southern University.
I continued to work at Texas Southern University as an assistant coach where we won the 2017 SWAC Tournament and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the history of the program.
Before coming to MacArthur, I spent 2 years at Clemens HS teaching English IV and coaching basketball and volleyball. I was able to be a part of two consecutive playoff seasons with both sports, as well as Region IV champs with a volleyball State Tournament birth during the 2019 season.
Prior to Clemens, I was on staff as an English teacher and assistant basketball, volleyball, and track coach at Judson High School. While there, the basketball program made two trips to the State Tournament and won the 6A State Championship for the 2018-2019 girls’ basketball season.
It's going to be a great year and I'm excited to be a Brahma!
