NEISD Back-to-School In-Person Phase-In Plan
On Thursday, August 13, the North East ISD Board of Trustees approved a phase-in plan to in-person learning for the 2020-2021 school year. The District's plan is based on health metrics, as well as the voices of our parents and staff.
"This pandemic has impacted our families in many ways, and it has really emphasized the vital role schools play in our communities," said Dr. Sean Maika, NEISD Superintendent of Schools.
Up to five students will be allowed in each classroom starting Sept. 8. If health metrics continue to improve and there has been no significant spread of COVID-19 in our schools, students will continue to be added to in-person classrooms.
The phase-in plan gives each campus the flexibility needed to meet the individual needs of its community.
"There is not a one-size-fits-all solution," said Maika. "The physical capacity of our buildings, enrollment from school to school, and demand for in-person instruction varies widely across our 70 campuses."
The plan gives NEISD the ability to protect our staff and students' health and safety while assessing the different requirements and restrictions on each campus. Ultimately, Maika says we all have a role to play in keeping our schools safe and open.
"Now more than ever, we need to support each other," said Maika. "I can open schools for our community, but keeping schools open is everyone's job. It will take all of us doing our part to keep our schools open."
For parents who have opted for in-person learning, a questionnaire will be sent to you next week via email or text.
