  Dress Code

It is our professional belief that learning and communication between adults and young people are enhanced by appropriate dress and grooming.  Properly fitting uniforms without logos are required for all students enrolled at Wood Middle School.  Parents are strongly encouraged to enforce moderate hair styles and high standards of dress for their students.

The length of shorts, skirts, and dresses must be mid-thigh or longer.  Pants, skorts, and shorts shall be worn securely at the proper height around the waist. Sagging is not permitted. “Sagging” is a term that describes the wearing of slacks or trousers excessively low on the hips.

The Uniform Policy for All Students:

  1. Shirts:  solid white or navy blue

¨      collared, polo/golf type, long or short sleeves.

¨      must have buttons, no zippers, no logos, no t-shirts.

t    must not extend past the inseam of pants

¨      solid white or navy blue undershirts and camisoles only, if worn under the uniform shirt.

  1. Pants, trousers, walking shorts, skort, skirt, or jumper:  navy or khaki cotton or polyester twill, no stretch material
  2. Belts are strongly encouraged.  Socks must be solid white, navy or khaki.
  3. Outerwear for cold weather, other than a navy or white sweat shirt, cannot be worn in the building.

Items listed below are considered inappropriate at school and school related functions:

1.      Denim, athletic sweats, wind suits, and overalls.

2.      Halter tops, exposed midriffs, strapless tops and/or low cut tops, exposed backs, tank shirts, fish net hose or see-through blouses.

3.      Clothing that advertises or depicts alcohol, sex, violence, tobacco, drugs, or symbols of gang membership or affiliation.

4.      House-shoes and footwear that has reinforced toes with steel, hard plastic or similar materials.

5.      Clothing not specifically designed to be worn in public.

6.      Caps, hats, bandannas, sweatbands and headwear.

7.      No visible body piercing ornaments are allowed other than on the lower ear lobes.

8.      Wallet chains and thick chains should be left at home.

9.      Silver studded belts & bracelets are not permitted.

10.  Only traditional hair colors are permitted.  Jewelry must be modest and cannot distract

While it is inevitable that there will be differences of opinion as to the appropriateness of dress, the final determination will be the judgment of the administration.  Any student who does not comply with this code will be removed from the regular school setting until appropriate clothing is acquired.
