Safety Kids are a group of fourth grade students that assist kindergarten and first grade students at dismissal time. These fourth grade leaders are responsible for ensuring that their groups of young children get to where they need to be at the end of the day. To qualify for this leadership position, fourth graders must demonstrate responsibility, compassion, and leadership qualities. Safety Kids are nominated by their 3rd grade teachers, and trained at the end of their 3rd grade year. At the beginning of their fourth grade year, they receive their assignments and meet their group of children. The fourth grade Safety Kids are closely monitored by the Safety Kid sponsors. Students are expected to demonstrate self-control by maintaining an “E” or “S’ in conduct. In addition, while on duty, Safety Kids are to model respect, self-discipline and responsibility at all times. They also need to wear their white belt each day to identify themselves as Safety Kids. Warnings are issued when fourth graders are not meeting expectations. After two warnings, the student is dismissed from Safety Kids. |
