1.HEIGHTS AND WEIGHTS- All students are weighed and measured at the beginning
of the school year.
2.VISION AND HEARING SCREENING- State law requires all students attending
pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades receive a vision and hearing
screening. This is done in September and October. It is free and parents are notified
only if there is a problem. All students from out of district will also be screened. If you
suspect your child has a hearing or vision problem, call the clinic and we will schedule a
screening.
3.MATURATION TRAINING- This school district offers a developmental sex
education program for 4th and 5th graders. It is taught by the school nurse. Students
are admitted only with parents' permission. There will be a Parents Preview Night in the
early spring when parents can view the videos and ask questions. We will send you the
specific date later.
4. ACANTHOSIS NIGRICANS SCREENING- This screening looks for
hyperkeratinization of the skin appearing as dark pigmentation on certain areas of the
body. This screening is done with 3rd and 5th graders This marker may indicate high
insulin levels. The great thing about this screening is that through modification of eating
habits and exercise, insulin levels can frequently be lowered. This marker does not mean
your child has diabetes. If the child is found to have this marker, parents will be
notified so that you may follow up with your physician.
5. DENTAL SCREENING- This screening is done by a local dentist at the school and is
coordinated by the nurse. This is a screening of 3rd grade students. The screening is
usually done in the spring. |
