Alternative Elementary School (AES) is a DAEP and meets all requirements set by TEA and North East ISD. The mission of AES is to provide a long-term disciplinary placement for students who have exhibited persistent misbehavior and/or violated the district’s Student Code of Conduct. The principal considering an AES placement is to call the hearing officer to discuss the situation. When a student’s behavior is such that an AES placement is justified, the home campus Principal makes a recommendation for AES placement. The final determination of placement and length of stay is made by the Pupil Personnel Services Hearing Officer. Students are required to complete assignments and comply with all AES rules and procedures. Students also receive behavioral and social skills training based on the Boys Town Education Model, skill streaming, and CHAMPS. The length of assignment may be reduced by 5 days as determined by PPS guidelines if the student is successful in academics and behavior. Example: 10 day assignment has an early release option at 5 days.
