Speech-language
therapy is available to children ages 3 through fifth grade who meet the
eligibility criteria.
Therapy services, including language, articulation, stuttering
and voice disorders, are provided during the school hours at the school.
For
children, ages 3 to 5, who are not eligible for public school classes,
an assessment may be requested by calling the school and setting up an
appointment with the speech pathologist.
Parents
may have more than speech concerns, but the assessment MUST begin at the
home school with the speech pathologist. Appropriate referrals are made
from the speech assessment. This process may begin 120 days prior to the
child’s third birthday.
Children
in kindergarten through fifth grades are usually referred by their
teachers due to concerns in one or more of the areas previously
mentioned.
A parent may also ask for an evaluation through the teacher or by
contacting the speech pathologist directly.
There
are also services for children Birth to Three.
The Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program is a combination
of services for this age child who has delays or disorders.
These services are federally and state funded at no cost to the
family.
Brighton School is the designated ECI site for Wetmore families.
