Dear Thousand Oaks Community,
January is a great time for fresh starts and refocused attention. We are blessed to have this opportunity to reflect on our progress to this point in the school year and focus our attention on the goals ahead.
Our staff will be working hard to make sure we meet our goals of success for students. We want every child to grow and progress in their academic abilities as a result of the school year spent here at Thousand Oaks.
Lower grade levels are focused heavily on reading and math progress. We want to make sure students increase their skills in these target areas. We want all students to be able to read and comprehend so they can continue to gain information with this skill. We want students to progress in their number sense and problem solving abilities so they can continue learning and using more advanced math skills.
Upper grade levels will focus more on achieving student success on state assessments. We continue to learn new information about the STAAR and the changes that have come to the state assessment program. Teachers will continue to increase rigor, focus on the state curriculum, and help students use critical thinking skills to solve problems and understand information.
Our greatest desire is have our students advance from where they started and reach their individual best. We are so thankful for your support of these efforts. Our students are extremely lucky to have the support of their families. Together, we will focus, finish strong, and be pleased with our students’ stories as we watch them unfold.
I am looking forward to honoring past traditions and creating new experiences during a successful 2011–2012 school year.
Sincerely,
Jenae Mai
