Accelerated Reader 2011-2012 Accelerated Readers Race to Read... and Read to Race First through fifth grade students at Thousand Oaks Elementary School are invited to train, qualify and compete to improve their reading skills and nurture their love of reading by participating in the 2011-2012 Accelerated Reader point club. . This years Accelerated Reader track/sports theme encourages students to set and reach personal reading goals in order to qualify to compete in grade level races at the the walking skipping and sprinting levels to be held in May, here at Thousand Oaks Elementary school. All students who are reading independently are invited to join this year’s reading marathon. . Student’s first names will be posted on the AR bulletin board when they reach the Accelerated Reader point levels for their grade level. Kindergartners and first graders, not yet reading independently, are invited to participate in other Read Kids Read activities such as Read for the Record in October and the Read Around the School events scheduled for October and March. All Thousand Oaks Students and their families are encouraged to train at home by spending at least 20 minutes each day reading for enjoyment and to improve their reading fitness. Readers are winners! Everyone wins when they participate in the sport of reading . Accelerated Reader Check Point Levels: #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 Reading Miles: 1st Grade: 5pts 10pts 30pts 60pts 100pts 2ndGrade: 10pts 20pts 40pts 75pts 150pts 3rd Grade: 15pts 30pts 60pts 125pts 250pts 4th Grade: 20pts 40pts 80pts 175pts 350pts 5th Grade: 25pts 50pts 100pts 200pts 400pts Students are expected to maintain an average of 85% correct or better on their AR quizzes. First through fifth grade students who reach their level #2 Point Goal by April 16th will be invited to participate in an AR Point Club Activity to be held in May.
Items Awarded to Students at Point levels: Level #1 – A paperback book pick from the book basket and Winning Reader bookmark Level #2 – Qualifying level for the AR Spring Activity and an AR Spirit Stick Level #3 Hardback book pick Level #4 Reading Medal and Certificate to be presented at the AR Olympic Team Activity to be held in the library in May Level #5 – AR Trophy Teachers are utilizing the Accelerated Reader program to support students’ sustained silent reading instruction in ways that are most appropriate for their grade level and are celebrating each student’s achievement in the classroom. Students are being monitored and encouraged to read books that are in their reading range.
