Tejeda Project Earns Johnson Grad Girl Scout Top Honor

Tejeda received a recent addition to its History Hill courtesy of Johnson High School graduate Robyn Freitas. Freitas took her appreciation for other cultures and created a German Sunday Haus at Tejeda. She turned an unutilized cabin on the campus into a German Sunday Haus, and now it is used as a hands-on learning tool for teachers and other school groups. Freitas is a 2011 graduate of Johnson and a member of Girl Scout Troop 32.

As a result of her efforts, Freitas earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest recognition earned by Girls Scouts in grades 9 - 12. Leadership skills, sense of community, and commitment are developed by earning the Gold Award. Striving for this award sets the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship and helps create strong leaders for the future.

The more than 65-hour Gold Award project is a culmination of the work a Girl Scout gives for this award, and offers each girl the opportunity to plan and implement a ‘Take Action’ project that fulfills an ongoing need within the community.

Gold Award recipients from across Texas were honored in a state-wide ceremony in Austin on June 13.
