Students in grades 3, 4, & 5 may join the Stone Oak Chess Club whether you are an advanced player or just want to learn.  We meet twice a month to play and practice new strategies.  Our club sponsors a Bunkhouse Tournament as well as an End of Year Tournament. Students must maintain an "S" or above in Conduct and passing grades in other subject areas.

SAFETY PATROLS
Sponsors:  Mrs. Burges & Mrs. Walker

Patrols are from the 5th grade and are needed at different areas throughout the school to assist students in getting to and from their buses, crossing streets and crosswalks, and otherwise leaving and entering the school grounds safely.  Because this is a job of responsibility, you must maintain passing grades and an "E" in conduct throughout the 4th grade.  You may participate either from 7:15 a.m.-7:50 a.m. or from 2:35 p.m.-3:00 p.m. every day.  Coats and gloves are necessary during cold weather.
Patrols attend a city-wide rally in April for recognition!

In this club 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will learn basic sign language and signing songs.  Songs will be performed by the club at special school events and in the community.  Because of the level of instruction required, you must make a commitment to attend meetings. You must also maintain an "S" or "E" in conduct and passing grades each six weeks to remain in the club.  If you fall short of these requirements and must drop out of the club, you will have missed too much during the six weeks to catch up and will not be allowed to rejoin later in the year.  The club will order a performance shirt for you at a cost to you of about $12.00.

STONE OAK STORYTELLING CLUB
Sponsors: Mrs. Kuentz & Mr. Proctor

Storytelling empowers students to tell stories in their own words and to listen to stories.  The students will learn to connect mental image chains of a story to share orally a folktale, fable, or personal tale with others.  They will work in groups and individually playing games and working with storytelling tools that will help them to make a story their own.  Tales will be shared throughout the school at various organizations and clubs.
If you are in grades 3-5, bring a folder with pockets and 20 index cards and join us on Tuesdays from 2:45-3:45 p.m.
