Robert E. Lee High School and the STEM R.A.M. Academy (housed on the Lee campus) are proud to host four robotics teams: BEST Robotics, First Tech Challenge, First Robotics Competition, and SeaPerch.
The BEST Robotics Team, the Metros (Math, Engineering, Technology, Robotics and Science) is open to all Lee, STEM, ISA, and NESA students. There is an application/interview process. The Metros have successfully progressed to regional (Texas BEST) competition for the last three years. Their Coach is Ronnie Pundt. The Assistant-Coach is Louann Pundt. The Metros receive mentor support from local industry such as IBM to aid the team in the design and construction of their robots.
Watch the video above of the Robert E Lee/STEM BEST Robotics team (Metros) presenting at Hillcrest Elementary School in order to promote BEST Robotics to Mrs. Joaquin’s 5th graders. While there, they explained the use of the Engineering Design Process and the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. BEST (Boosting Engineering Science and Technology) Robotics was created in 1993 by Texas Instruments engineers Ted Mahler and Steve Marum. Their purpose was to attract students to the science, engineering, and technology fields. For more details of the history of BEST Robotics visit www.bestinc.org/b_history.php .
Watch the short video above of the 2011 METROS (Robert E. Lee/STEM BEST Robotics Team) as we are preparing for this year’s BEST Robotics challenge, “BUGS”. The “BUGS” challenge is to design a robot that can collect escaped genetically altered bugs hiding in a construction site.
The competition for the San Antonio Hub will be held on
Saturday, October 15, 2011 at
