MUNSTR Information
What is MUNSTR?
MUNSTR stands for Middle School United Nations Simulation at Theodore Roosevelt HS. It is a Model UN simulation for middle school students in San Antonio and the surrounding area, designed to get students involved in Model UN early. Students have the opportunity to research a country and a topic and debate it in a forum simulating an actual United Nations committee--everything High School and College MUN students do. It is run by high school students who are able to relate well to the middle school students and therefore are able to better facilitate debate and help with issues that may arise. MUNSTR is in its 3rd year in 2008, and the past 2 simulations have been resounding successes. It is a one-day simulation, allowing students to get involved in debate without the added burdens and length of a multi-day simulation like those high school students participate in. We encourage any interested middle school teachers to start Model UN clubs at their respective schools and register for MUNSTR this year. For more information, or to register contact any of the sponsors using the info provided on the Contact Us page.

Why should kids get involved in Model UN in middle school?
Getting involved in Model UN provides great leadership and civics experience, allows students to take a stand on issues and support that stand, and facilitates creativity and compromise within the bounds of our global society. The earlier one gets involved in Model UN the better able one is to succeed in High School or College MUN simulations. In addition to these benefits MUN is a fun, social experience where students can collaborate with their friends and have a great time while learning!
