Theodore Roosevelt Model UN
2007-2008

Dear TRMUN Delegate,

My name is Allyson Holley and I am your Secretary General for the 2007-2008 year. This will be my third year in the MUN program at Roosevelt. I look forward to all the simulations we have planned for you this year and hope you will enjoy them.

Model United Nations provides many benefits for a delegate; from better communication and public speaking skills to gaining a better knowledge of the today’s world. As a TRMUN delegate you will learn helpful researching techniques that will provide you with a strong knowledge base and quick thinking skills. This will become crucial when you must think on your feet to defend your country’s position. You also learn how to take on different perspectives, which can strengthen your own position while allowing you to understand someone else’s.

As a delegate for TRMUN you not only represent our club but you also represent Roosevelt High School. We dress business professional at every simulation we attend, and excellent behavior is always expected. All simulations hold an awards ceremony where awards such as “Best Delegate” and “Best Position Paper” are given out. While awards are not the primary focus of our organization, delegates work very hard to stand out among their peers and receive these titles.

This year we will be attending four major simulations: Rice MUN, MUNSA and MUNUC. We are also hosting MUNSTR III for the middle schools again this year.

This will be our first year attending Rice MUN. It is open to all grades and is held in October. Model United Nations of San Antonio (MUNSA) is also open to all grades and is held in November. Depending on what grade you are in, you will attend one of the two major simulations, both in February: Model United Nations University of Chicago (MUNUC), which is for grades 9-11, or the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN), for seniors only. Two major factors determine the costs of these trips. The size of the group and registration dates; some being required months in advance.

If you have any questions about simulations or anything regarding MUN, you may contact me at allyson.michele@gmail.com, or our sponsor, Mr. Michael Jarvis, at mjarvi@neisd.net.

Thank you,

Secretary General
Allyson Holley
