Meet The Roosevelt Counselors & Support Staff  

Rose Garcia

Rose Garcia
Head Counselor

Degrees: Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University;
Masters of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Counseling from the
University of Texas at San Antonio.

Areas of Certification and Licensure: Texas Teaching Certificate in grades 1-6 all areas and grades 1-8 in reading; Texas Professional Certificate in Counseling.

Interesting Facts: Rose has been in education for 10 years and comes to Roosevelt from Northside ISD. She is excited about becoming part of the Roosevelt family. In addition to couseling students, Rose spends most of her time with her active two year old daughter. When she has spare time she enjoys reading and traveling.

Linda Howe

Degrees: Bachelor of Arts in English from Emory University; Master of Arts in English from the University of Wisconsin; Master of Arts in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Areas of Certification and Licensure: Texas Secondary Teaching Certificate in English; Texas Secondary Teaching Certificate in Special Education; Texas Professional Certificate in Counseling; Licensed Professional Counselor.

Interesting Facts: Linda has been a teaching associate at UTSA and a teacher and counselor with NEISD for 25 years. She is married to a retired Professor of Engineering at UTSA. They have two daughters. She loves her organic gardening, playing with her three grandchildren, volunteering with the Children's Association for Maximum Potential, and her work as a High School Counselor.

Degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio; Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&M Kingsville.

Areas of Certification and Licensure: Texas State Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education; Texas Professional Certificate in Counseling.

Interesting Facts: Carolyn is married and has three very active children. She enjoys being involved with her family's activities. Aside from school counseling, Carolyn enjoys reading, going to the beach, and most of all being a "Mom."

Magdalena Lopez

Degrees: Bachelors of Arts in English and Spanish from Texas Tech, Master in Science in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&M Kingsville

Interesting Facts: Magdalena joined the Roosevelt family eight years ago as a Spanish Teacher, and is currently in her third year as a counselor. She loves being able to interact with all of the students and have a hand in shaping their lives and futures. She enjoys spending her free time with her three sisters, reading, shopping, and watching movies. She has a nine year old son, Brandon, who is "the greatest joy of her life".

Kelly Quiroz

Areas of Certification and Licensure: Texas Elementary Teaching; Reading Grades 1-8; Texas Professional Certificate in Counseling.

Interesting Facts: Kelly was born in Long Island, New York. She attended Middle and HIgh School in San Antonio and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She has one daughter who takes up most of her free time. In addition to being with her family, she enjoys reading and shopping.

Sue Johnston
DATA Counselor

Degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Education, Texas Lutheran University; Masters of Science in Counseling and Guidance, Texas A&M Kingsville.

Mrs. Johnston has been in education for 20 years, 15 of which she has been a counselor. She is married to a NEISD teacher. She has 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren. Being the DATA counselor is her dream job and she loves coming to work every morning. In her spare time she enjoys traveling to the mountains of Colorado.


STAN Counselor - Werk Cook

A native of Aspen, Colorado, Mr. Cook left the mountains as a young teenager.  He attended Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut, and received his undergraduate degree from Ripon College (WI), and his Master’s from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Mr. Cook moved to Texas in 1994 from Raleigh, North Carolina.  He moved to San Antonio and was Head of the Lower School at Keystone School.  In 2006, he started working in NEISD as a counselor at Royal Ridge.

Mr. Cook is married to Linda Akin-Cook and they have one married daughter, Katy Corrigan.  Mr. Cook’s hobbies include all sports, photography, logic puzzles, and traveling.

Interesting Facts: Former career in the insurance and financial services industry. Rebecca and her husband enjoy traveling and have visited Canada, Switzerland and spent time in the Bahamas.
