STUDENT WELFARE:
STUDENT SAFETY

FFF (R)

To avoid threat of injury to students and possible damage to equipment and uniforms, the following provisions are recom-mended for outdoor band and color groups performance during inclement weather.

Inclement weather is defined as "stormy, severe." This includes heavy rain, lightning, hail, etc.

PERFORMANCE DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER

In some instances, where inclement weather conditions exist prior to a scheduled performance, school administrators and the band director may opt to have the band perform in pep rally attire (T-shirt and jeans) using only brass and percussion instruments.

In instances where inclement weather is indicated prior to a per-formance, the decision whether or not to perform will be made by school administrators prior to the end of the school that day, allowing the band director and/or organization sponsors time to communicate instructions to the organization. This would include half-time performances at football games. If a soggy field pre-cludes the band's marching and the color groups performing on the field at half-time, the band and/or color groups may wish to per-form their half-time presentation while standing on the track, and the band may or may not perform in uniform depending upon weather conditions.

In the event of inclement weather during a performance, the band and/or color groups will proceed to cover and safety as deter-mined by the school administrator in charge, the band director, and/or the organization sponsor, or by the band director and/or organization sponsor if no administrator is present. If after a reasonable time (approximately 30 minutes) the inclement condi-tion persists, the organization will then be expected to return to its home campus.

In order to facilitate mobility of the organization, it is necessary that two-way communication between band director and/or organi-zation sponsor and the bus driver in charge be maintained at all times.
