ANIMALS IN THE SCHOOLS

SCIENCE CLASSES

Any animals that are used as a teaching tool in the science/ laboratory classes must come from acceptable sources. These sources shall include Region 20 and the following science supply companies through the bid process:

1. Carolina Biological

2. Nasco Scientific

3. Southern Biological

Animals brought in from other sources shall have a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days prior to bringing the animal onto district property. This certificate shall be kept on file at the campus level as long as the animal remains on campus.

AGRICULTURE PROGRAM

Anyone wishing to bring animals onto the agricultural center at Madison High School shall have a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days prior to bringing the animal onto campus. Each animal shall be cleared through the appro-priate agriculture instructor at the campus. In certain cases, such as in obtaining animals from out of state sources, the animal may have to be quarantined for a certain length of time. Any specific questions regarding animals used in the agricultural area at Madison should be directed to Mr. Chris Weimers at 637-4430.

RECORDS

All other animals on school property shall be obtained from an approved source as listed in item #1 above or the owner of that animal shall provide a certificate of health issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days prior to bringing the animal onto district property. This certificate shall be kept on file at the campus as long as the animal remains on campus. A tracking system shall be established on each campus to insure that the owners of long term animals that remain on campus stay in compliance with health requirements such as vaccinations, etc.

Exotic animals such as venomous reptiles, ferrets, etc., shall not be brought onto our campuses. Administrators also have the right to prohibit any animal on a campus that would disrupt the educational environment.
