EXTENDED INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS:
COLLEGE COURSE WORK/DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM

EHDD (R)

DUAL CREDIT

In order for a course to earn dual high school/college credit, advanced academic instruction must be provided beyond or in greater depth than the essential knowledge and skills. Students enrolled in college courses not in alignment with state-approved high school credit courses shall not receive credit toward high school graduation.

ELIGIBILITY

Students who are eligible shall be permitted to earn credit toward high school graduation through enrollment in specified college-level courses through an accredited institution of higher education. The following condition must be met:

1. The student shall be required to maintain local course load requirements and eligibility requirements of TEA or the UIL.

AGREEMENT

The district shall enter into an agreement with local universities to offer college credit for specific college-level courses to be taught on the high school campus or the local university campus. Students enrolled in dual credit courses shall have access to university library services, computer lab services, tutoring, and other related student services

QUALIFICATIONS

The student must qualify for acceptance to the college. The college lists specific test score qualifications according to the course being taught. If the student has no scores available through the, SAT, ACT, or TASP (including approved exemptions from TASP), arrangements must be made by the student through the college to take a college placement.

ENROLLMENT

Prior to the dual credit enrollment, the student must complete all registration procedures required by the college or university.

TEXTBOOKS

If textbooks beyond those provided by NEISD are required, students shall be responsible for purchasing their books for dual credit courses. New or used books are available through the college bookstore.

DROPPING

NEISD penalties apply if the student drops the class after the first three weeks. If a student is failing, the college shall withdraw the student from dual credit status.

GRADING

Numeric grades shall be reflected on the district report card. The Academic Achievement Record (AAR/high school transcript), shall reflect "Dual Credit" status. If the dual credit class is taught in conjunction with an Advanced Placement (AP) class, the grade shall carry Honors weight for ranking.

DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM

On a four-point college grading scale, a grade of 3.0 is necessary for the dual credit class to meet one of the "advanced measures" required for the Distinguished Achievement Program.

COLLEGE CREDIT

After graduation from high school, the student must submit another official high school transcript to the college and request a transcript from them showing any college credits earned through the dual credit program. Courses are identified on the college transcript as regular college-level courses. It is the student's responsibility to seek information regarding acceptance of dual credit and its application to a degree in the desired major from institutions to which he/she desires to transfer the course work.
