DAILY ACTIVITIES

As early as possible at the beginning of the first class on each school day for which classes are scheduled, students in all schools shall take part in two activities including: 1 Recitation of the Pledges of Allegiance to the United States and Texas flags, followed by, 2 One minute of silence. Each classroom shall contain a United States flag and a Texas flag, to which the Pledges of Allegiance will be given. The period of silence is intended to be an individual activity. There shall be no attempt by any District employee to influence in any way another person's thoughts during the period of silence. These two activities shall be announced over the public address system to classrooms with the following words: "We will now have the Pledges of Allegiance to the United States and Texas flags, followed by one minute of silence, after which announcements will be given." Students who are disruptive during this time shall be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Students with religious or other objections shall not be disciplined for choosing not to participate in the pledges of allegiance or the moment of silence. Students shall not be compelled or coerced by any District employee into participating in the pledges of allegiance.

ABBREVIATED SCHOOL DAY

Principals shall forward requests for an abbreviated school day for their campus to the Associate Superintendent for Campus Support.
