Gifted Program

Taught by Mrs. Ronnie Retzloff
The gifted program in Northeast is split into two sections. G/T K-2 serves
students in Kindergarten, First, and Second grades. G/T 3-5 serves students in
Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades. Instruction seeks to capitalize on student
strengths to develop logical and critical thinking, vocabulary, and problem
solving through the core areas of language arts, mathematics, social studies,
and science. The curriculum is advanced two to three years above grade level.
To qualify for the gifted program in North East, students need to score in
the high 90's on a majority of the standardized tests given. Students who
have been tested and identified as intellectually and academically gifted will
attend G/T classes for 1 to 5 hours each week, depending upon grade level.
Nominations must be made prior to the second week of school for 2nd -
5th graders, prior to the 7th week of school for 1st graders, prior to Jan. 1st
for Kindergarteners, and prior to Feb. 15th for middle school.
Current NEISD
students that are not nominated by the assigned times will be asked to wait for
the following year's testing.
Elementary Testing Periods:
Grades 2, 3, 4, & 5 are tested the
1st week of school
through the 4th week.
1st Grade testing is from the
8th week of school through
the 10th week.
Kindergarten testing is done in January
5th graders are tested for Middle School G/T Math and G/T
English in late February and March, depending on TAKS dates.
***If nominated, new students enrolling in North East Schools after the
normal testing periods will be tested as soon as scores from the previous school
arrive.
