Redland Oaks Dance Festival

Redland Oaks second graders  present their parachute routine.

The Redland Oaks community gathered in bleachers and folding chairs to watch all the students of Redland Oaks celebrate Dance Festival. Brightly colored balloons, a cool morning breeze, and the joy of children's laughter set a most festive mood for this community event that was both relaxing and fun. Under the direction of PE Coach, Pat Allen, and music teacher, Amy Girardeau, each grade level performed a rhythms routine with a summertime prop. Some kinder classes began the performance with an exuberant routine to “Car Wash” and another group of kinder students danced to “The Martian Hop” complete with antennae. First grade entertained the crowd with a Caribbean routine from Trinidad and a routine performed with noodles to “Yakety Yak. Don’t Talk Back”. Second grade really wowed the crowd with their rendition of “Hey Mickey” with the girls wearing their Minnie Mouse ears. The parachute routine, performed by the other 2nd graders, really added color and fun to the whole celebration. The A.P.E. classes, under the direction of Coach Cindy Slagle, performed “Zumba Kumbia” with maracas. They did an awesome job and all the children cheered their performance. The intermediate grades used Hula Hoops and Spin Jammers while others danced to a Beatles song and a Russian Folk Dance. The fifth graders presented two wonderfully entertaining routines. The girls performed a very difficult, intricate jump-band routine and the boys performed to “I Don’t Dance” from High School Musical II, complete with bats and gloves. The Dance Festival ended as the teachers and staff performed the Hokey Poky in brightly colored Hokey Poky t-shirts with the students and parents screaming with delight. The Hokey Pokey was dedicated to all retiring teachers and Suzanne Enger, our Teacher of the Year.  This end-of-year community event is a Redland Oaks tradition that is a fun and memorable experience for students, parents, and staff. What a wonderful way to end the school year!!
