Two NEISD schools receive $2,000 Best Buy Teach Award
|
Both Hidden Forest Elementary School and iMAK received the Best Buy Teach Award grant for $2,000. Hidden Forest teachers and campus improvement committee will work together to decide how to spend the grant to enhance the technology education of the students. iMAK and Krueger Middle School will use the funds to develop an integrated technology/photography program for the entire campus. "It was my hope to open up tech opportunities to all of Krueger's students," said Lorraine Roussin, librarian. The school hopes this grant will increase technology integration and availability throughout the entire Krueger Middle School campus. iMAK incorporates photography and technology in its programs. With this grant, Krueger will purchase digital cameras and provide teacher training in digital photography and Photoshop CS3 so that all teachers and students on the campus will have the opportunity to enhance their lessons. Brenda Marafioto, iMAK journalism teacher, will provide teacher training in the spring and summer to assist core-teachers in learning how to use the equipment and software and develop lessons to integrate into their curriculum. "Kids get excited about using cameras and this software, so if we can use it to get them excited about reading ... and science ... and history, it's a win-win situation," said Marafioto. |
