West Avenue students rally for TAKS, faculty perform play

On Monday, April 28, 2008, the students of West Avenue Elementary School were treated to a TAKS Rally. To help motivate students to perform their best for TAKS, faculty and staff performed a comedic play depicting the hard work both teachers and students put into preparing for the test.

West Avenue Counselor Mari Williams wrote and directed the play, and even acted in it as well. The remaining play's cast was made up of teachers from across grade levels and disciplines.

The play was loosely based on characters from Disney's High School Musical, and presented the connection between tutoring, small groups, weekend workshops and administration and teacher efforts to learning. The play included song, dance, physical activity and humor to portray its message of hard work, persistence and wellness to students.
