STEM seventh-graders accept the challenge, Do the Write Thing
|
Seventh-graders at the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy at Nimitz Middle School accepted the challenge to Do the Write Thing. Students all over America are accepting this same challenge of doing something to end violence among young people. According to the Do the Write Thing Web site, "this Challenge gives middle school students an opportunity to examine the impact of violence on their lives and communicate in their writing what they think should be done to change our culture of violence." At STEM, student have chosen their preferred style of writing to showcase their feelings toward youth violence. Style options include the following: poem, play, song, essay. Students are writing with emotion and feeling as each delves into their own original work. These works will then be submitted in hopes that a student will be chosen as an ambassador against violence. |

Ciara Zamora and Elizabeth Chavis work on their pieces for the Do the Write Thing challenge.
