North East ISD announced the Overall Teacher of the Year at a special reception on May 6, 2009. David Bolster of Harris Middle School, was named the 2010 NEISD Teacher of the Year (TOY) and will represent the district at the Region 20 Teacher of the Year contest next fall. "I think teachers are an absolutely amazing bunch of professionals, who get up every morning to face blistering criticisms from society, an impossible load of external and self-imposed burdens, and a thousand and one daily distractions in the classroom,” said Bolster. “And yet, the next day teachers get up and do it all again. Why? We do it because we love helping children succeed. We do it because we know that what we are doing is vital.” Bolster was selected from three finalists, one representing each school level. The other two finalists were Wendy Howk of Stone Oak Elementary School and Dawn Wales of Churchill High School. The TOY Reception also honored all elementary, middle and high school campus Teachers of the Year who are listed here.
