Mentors win South Texas awards
|
Two Oak Grove Elementary School mentors were recognized for their outstanding commitment to students in our community at an awards ceremony on April 11, 2008. Out of almost 2,500 Big Brothers and Big Sisters in South Texas, Yvonne Cravatt received the School Based Big Sister of the Year award for working with two students in San Antonio. Jerry Cherico, who has been a Big Brother for nine years, received the School Based Big Brother of the Year award. Marcus Hughes, who mentors a student at Garner Middle School, also received the Community Based Big Brother of the Year award not only from the South Texas agency, but also for Texas. He will now go on to compete for national recognition. For more information on the NEISD volunteer program, contact Sandy Kozero, district volunteer coordinator, at 210-804-7226.
