Madison JROTC Cadets participate in library flag ceremony

In honor of Texas Independence Day and Texas Flag Day, the JROTC Color Guard from Madison High School collaborated with City of San Antonio District 10 Councilman John C. Clamp to host a flag installation ceremony at the Semmes Library (15060 Judson Rd.) on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008. The Semmes Library is the fifth library in San Antonio to receive a Texas State Flag.

Councilman Clamp believes that this flag ceremony will initiate a precedence to install a flag pole at all San Antonio libraries.

"The Texas flag represents what Texans pride themselves on: loyalty, strength and bravery," said Director of Army Instruction Colonel Robert Henson.

Texas gained independence on March 2, 1836; the flag was adopted on January 24, 1839 as the national flag of the Republic of Texas. When Texas became the 28th state in 1845, the national flag became the Texas state flag.

Madison High School JROTC Cadets prepare to raise but the U.S. flag and the Texas state flag at a Flag Dedication Ceremony at Semmes Library on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008.
