Madison students shine at Fort Worth stock show and rodeo
|
Madison High School Agri-Science Program students Derrick Drury and Courtney Kopecky garnered big wins at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo in late January. Fort Worth is the first major show of this stock show season. Drury earned accolades in two divisions: steer and goat. His American Crossbred steer was crowned as Reserve Champion of his division and earned the right to go to the Auction of Champions. Drury received $10,000 for his steer. "It's like nothing I've ever done before--to get that far at a major stock show, it was amazing," said Drury. "This money is going to go a long way toward my college degree." One week prior to the steer competition, Drury claimed the title of Champion Senior Showman of the entire Goat Show, beating more than 600 exhibitors. Kopecky also won big in the breeding beef division in Fort Worth. Kopecky exhibited her heifer Gwinn, and won the Limousine Breeding Division, Reserve Champion and the Limousine Breeding Cattle Showmanship Championship. "It's the biggest show I have ever been to," said Kopecky. "It was nerve-racking and fun at the same time. It's a great feeling to so so well and wrap up my show career with a bang." |
