Three Madison High School students will participate in a national agriscience competition to take place in late October. The National FFA selected Alexandria Schultes and Brook Nussle with their project "Beauty is in the 'eye' of the Beholder-A study evaluating the effect of de-eyeing" and Katherine Wohl with her project "Skeeter Defeater-The Effect of Bacillus Thuringiensis Israelensis on Mosquito Larvae Found in the James Madison Greenhouse Aquaculture and Aquaponic Systems." Schultes and Nussle will have their project on display at the 79th Annual National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in the National Agriscience Fair area. Each winning participant receives either a cash award or scholarship. Wohl is a finalist in the Agriscience Student Scholarship and Recognition program and will present her project design, development and results to a panel of judges as part of the national finals. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship and compete for national honors at the convention. In addition, the Madison FFA Chapter was named a three-star winner out of more than 600 candidates nationwide in the National FFA Chapter Award program. The award recognizes FFA chapters for developing and conducting a detailed Program of Activities. The Madison chapter will be presented with the award at the national convention. FFA is a national youth organization of more than 490,000 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture.
