MacArthur dance team takes top honors at summer camps
|
Dance teams at MacArthur High School spent the summer attending camps and achieving top honors. In June, the Brahmadora Varsity Dance Team Officers attended the Half Time Entertainment (HTE) Officer Training Camp in Austin. The officers won awards for choreography, discipline, showmanship, technique and spirit. Carolyn Slade, Kyndall Fuller, Kristin Horton and Emilie Christian were all named to Dance Academy and Kick Academy. As a result of all MacArthur Officers receiving this honor, they are considered a "Platinum Officer Line." This title gives them the opportunity to dance in a special performance in Hawaii. In addition, Slade and Fuller were invited to be members of the HTE Dance Staff after graduation. The Brahmadoras then attended the Universal Dance Association (UDA) Team Camp at the University of Texas in Austin. On the first night of camp, the Brahmadoras received the "Rock Star" award. "The camp staff chose the MacArthur Dancers for this award because they showed great leadership and 'rocked out' on the dance routines," said Stephanie Exum, MacArthur dance director. The girls also won first place for their home routine, a superior trophy, a creativity award for their 'Extreme Team Challenge,' first place team evaluation, and first place for 'Drill Downs.' The Brahmadoras also received a spirit stick every night of camp. Slade, Fuller, Horton, Kimberly Cantrill, Brett Morrison and Monica Winn were named as UDA All-Stars, and received an invitation to perform at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Slade and Fuller were also invited to be members of the prestigious UDA Dance Staff. "This is a great honor because there are currently only three UDA Staff members from Texas," said Exum. Slade and Fuller were also asked to represent Texas Dance Teams at a performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. The Brahmadoras were also invited to perform at halftime for the Capital One Bowl Game in Florida. "The best and most rewarding honor of all is that the Brahmadoras received a bid to compete in the UDA National Dance Team Championships in Orlando," said Exum. "UDA Nationals is the largest dance competition in the world and can be seen on ESPN and ESPN2 every year. The UDA Staff said that they were excited to see the Brahmadoras represent the great state of Texas at the Championships. I am so proud of all that the girls have accomplished this. The Brahmadoras achieve success through their hard work, dedication, and positive work ethic." |
