MacArthur cheerleaders achieve top Awards at summer camp

The MacArthur High School varsity, junior varsity and freshman cheer squads achieved top awards from one of the largest Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camps in Texas at Texas A&M on August 4 - 7, 2008.

The varsity squad returned home as Camp Champs in each category by placing first in the Home Pom routine, first in Extreme Dance and first in the Camp Cheer. They also received Superior ribbons during all camp evaluations for cheer, chants and dance. Varsity was also honored with the Traditions Award and Leadership Award; these two awards recognized the cheerleaders' technical skills and demonstration of leadership, spirit, tradition and pride.

The junior varsity and freshman squads earned second place in the Home Pom routine, and junior varsity placed second in Extreme Dance. Junior varsity and freshman also received Superior ratings for all camp evaluations for cheer, chant and dance and brought home two Superior trophies.

Individual UCA All Star Awards were awarded to the following cheerleaders: Michelle Medina, Alyssa Renee Rodriguez and Carly Jo Baker on varsity; Chelsea Newton on junior varsity; and Allison Skinner, CeCe Munoz and Shelby Gonzales on the freshman squad.

"Camp is the first step in preparing for a successful and safe season," said Kristi Seitz, cheer coach. "These girls worked extremely hard and did an amazing job at representing MacArthur."
