KSAT Rocket Team accepted for NASA's Student Launch Initiative
|
Students in the Krueger School of Applied Technologies (KSAT) Rocket Team have been selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to participate in its 2007-2008 Student Launch Initiative (SLI). This program is also in conjunction with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. KSAT is one of 18 middle and high school teams nationwide selected for this honor. The students created a proposal and a Web site that was submitted to NASA in hopes of being selected for the SLI program. In this program, students will design and build a rocket that has to carry a scientific payload one mile high and have it return back to ground safely. KSAT was awarded a grant to purchase materials to construct the rocket, and the rocket will be launched at Marshall Space Center in Alabama in April. During this time, the students have the opportunity to work with aerospace electronics engineers from the Southwest Research Institute, and will also have a video conference with NASA to discuss the project.
