Grandfathering and transfer options for Johnson

On November 12, 2007, the North East ISD Board of Trustees approved the attendance boundaries for Claudia Taylor "Lady Bird" Johnson High School. This decision affects a number of students currently attending Ronald Reagan and Douglas MacArthur high schools. A grandfathering policy was part of this decision.

Johnson High School will have a senior class its first year, but any student currently attending Reagan who will be a senior in 2008-2009 will have the option to stay at Reagan. Additionally, any students overflowed or temporarily zoned to MacArthur will be allowed to stay at that school. Applications for both of these grandfathering options are due by March 7, 2008 and do not apply to younger siblings.

The district has also developed a voluntary transfer option to allow students living in the 2008-2009 Reagan attendance area to enroll at Johnson. Students who meet the criteria have until March 7, 2008 to submit their Voluntary Transfer Application without the loss of one calendar year of UIL varsity level eligibility.  Students may elect to transfer to Johnson from Reagan after this date, but there will be a loss of UIL eligibility.

Additionally, eighth-grade students attending Tejeda Middle School under a previous grandfather policy will have the option to attend Johnson or the high school serving their residence.

Parents of all current 8th-11th grade NEISD students residing in the 2008-2009 Reagan and Johnson attendance areas will receive a letter describing the options available to their students. Many families will have to take no action to enroll for next school year.
