Johnson dance and drill teams sweep summer camps
|
The Johnson High School Dance and Drill teams recently attended the ShowMakers of America Summer Camps. The dance team attended camp at Blinn College in Brenham, TX, while the drill team attended camp at the Omni Hotel here in San Antonio. The teams returned as champions. The Jaguar Dance and Drill teams were acknowledged as "Outstanding Team," "Most Disciplined Team," "Most Admired Team," "Sweepstakes" winners, and "Grand Champion" winners, among others. In addition to team awards, members received many individual honors. "All my girls have impressed thus far," said Stephanie Trevino, Johnson Dance Director. "They have all shown me great work ethic and outstanding dedication in the short amount of time I have known them. Not only do they possess a drive in wanting to be the best dance and drill team, but they want to be strong role models in our community, which I admire them greatly for. Seeing these amazing qualities in both my teams have me very anxious about the future, and I strongly feel it will be a successful first year." For a team to receive the Sweepstakes award, they have to score above an 85 in both home routine and final day evaluation, which is what both teams achieved. Johnson Legacies, the dance team, was awarded Grand Champions while at camp. "This was an incredible award to be given because it implies that we were the highest scoring team at this camp," said Trevino. "My experience at camp this year was one in a million, and it felt amazing to finally show off all our hard-work, dedication and enthusiasm to everyone," said Lauren Negrete, Johnson junior and Legacies Dance Major. "Our team seems to get stronger in unity by the minute, and it was evident that our devotion and perseverance at camp was contagious not only to one another, but to other teams. I am so pumped and eager to start our legacy at Johnson High School because we’ve already grasped an outstanding start, with an exceptional director to guide us. Our team has reached nothing less than ultimate greatness, and I am so honored to be able to take part in it." |
