North East JROTC teams dominate at Army Nationals

High School Junior ROTC drill teams from Reagan -in the armed division- and MacArthur -in the unarmed competition- won their respective “Army Nationals” Championship title out of 32 schools and 57 teams from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas. The event took place in College Station, Texas on Mar. 15, 2008. Reagan’s “Rattler Guard Armed Drill Team” placed first in Exhibition Drill, third in Regulation Drill, fourth in Unit Inspection and sixth in Color Guard, in addition to winning the Overall Armed Division Competition. Another North East JROTC Armed Drill team at the competition was MacArthur’s “Blue Guard” which placed third overall. The nationally renowned “Black Watch Armed Drill Team” from Churchill finished fourth, while the “San Juan Guard” from Roosevelt finished sixth overall. Lee’s “Volunteer Guard” finished eighth, and the Madison “Maverick Guard” finished ninth overall out of the 23 schools in their division. Many honors were won in the unarmed competition as well. The “Mighty Blue Angels Unarmed Drill Team” from MacArthur garnered championship honors in a very competitive and talent-laden field. The Blue Angels earned first place honors in Color Guard and Regulation Drill, and second place in both Unit Inspection and Exhibition Drill. The “Queens Guard Unarmed Drill Team” from Churchill finished second overall, and the “Diamond Back Drill Team” from Reagan placed third. The famed “Riderettes Unarmed Drill Team” from Roosevelt finished fourth, Madison’s “Lady Maverick Guard” finished seventh and the “Stratford Unarmed Drill Team” from Lee finished in eleventh place out of 21 unarmed drill teams. The individual armed and unarmed drill competitions were both won by members of the Roosevelt JROTC Battalion. Senior cadet Hyun Kim won the Armed Competition and sophomore cadet Phillip Kimm won the Unarmed Competition. |
