Dellview students spend summer as Super Readers

To inspire and challenge students to improve their reading fluency and reading comprehension, 25 Dellview Elementary School students participated in the Super Readers Summer Camp. Camp began on July 7, and will continue through August 1. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade took the challenge to spend their mornings improving reading skills as they work toward being named Super Readers.

"The program provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to strengthen their reading skills for the '08-'09 school year," said Super Reader Teacher Jennifer Ruiz.

The students will spend four weeks attending small group classes taught daily by Dellview teachers. Activities include research-based reading programs, phonetic activities, storytelling, technology and writing their own stories.

"The small group setting allows the students to receive one-on-one instruction to become better readers," said Noelia Robles, Dellview Super Reader teacher. "We are very proud of our students and the efforts they are applying to this program."

After the morning program, students are rewarded in the afternoon and participate in the KIN extra-curricular program to swim, skate, play sports and games.

Following the camp, students will host a Reading Restaurant, small reception, where each will make a presentation regarding their goals met and progress made in order for their parents to have a taste of their reading success. Parents and siblings will also be invited to stay for lunch.
