Dellview students take challenge, S.T.E.M. summer camp

Approximately thirty fourth and fifth grade students at Dellview Elementary accepted the challenge to participate in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) camp this summer.

"This is a terrific opportunity for our students to become future leaders and problem solvers," said S.T.E.M. summer camp teacher Patricia Riou.

The students spent four weeks attending classes daily taught by Dellview teachers specializing in S.T.E.M. subjects. After a morning academic program, the students ate lunch and then participated in the afternoon KIN extra-curricular program where they swam, played sports and/or games. The Dellview S.T.E.M. Summer Camp supports state S.T.E.M. initiatives, which encourage more students to pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Morning camp activities included science experiments, English literature/engineering activities, technology research and application, and hands-on math projects.

"This is an excellent, stimulating challenge for our students," said Eileen Berkowitz, Dellview S.T.E.M. Summer Camp teacher. "The variety of STEM related activities allows them to be creative and innovative. We all are very proud of our students and their efforts in this program."

At the conclusion of the S.T.E.M. summer camp, the students will host a reception for their parents to showcase their hard work. Parents and siblings also will be invited to stay for lunch.
