Dellview celebrates reading goal, with pep

Jennifer Ruiz, Reading Facilitator, and Pamela Arevalo-Thompson, Librarian, riled up the students of Dellview Elementary School on Monday, Sep. 22 with a Reading Goal Pep Rally. Under the theme "Dive for the Gold: Read!" each grade level has different goals that must be attained in order to earn a chance to eat lunch on the stage or an opportunity to "dive for the gold" to receive rewards such as extra recess, homework passes, board game time and a library lock-in.

"Students enjoy working toward a goal to earn the various rewards," said Arevalo-Thompson.

Each month, students who meet their goal are recognized by the principal Dr. Ivonna Gonzalez or assistant principal Dr. Linda Vargas-Lew. Students are also encouraged to meet their reading goal throughout the school year in order to participate in an end-of-the-year reading goal party.

"We celebrate reading and our students' successes at Dellview," said Ruiz. "The purpose of the program is not only to get students excited about reading, but also develop great readers. We are going to have a great year!"
