Both Churchill High School Debate teams competed this past weekend in Austin for the top positions at the 5A University Interscholastic League (UIL) Policy Debate State Meet. They competed against approximately 60 other 5A teams from Texas and advanced to the elimination rounds where both teams advanced to the quarterfinals. When both teams advanced to the quarters, Churchill became the only 5A school to advance two teams to the top eight in the state. 
 
The team of Kelly Cunningham and Chris Solis finished as quarterfinalists and the team of Mario Villaplana and Avi Munoz won third.
