North East ISD's Parent Academy will have a graduation ceremony on April 9, 2008 from 10-11:30 a.m. at Lee High School. The Parent Academy is a collaborative effort between NEISD and San Antonio College, and graduates will receive a Continuing Education Certificate of Completion. Attending will be San Antonio College representatives Dr. Robert E. Zeigler, president; and Anelia Luna, program director; as well as NEISD administrators.
The Parent Academy graduation recognizes parents who have attended sessions at their children's school. The Academy provides an opportunity for parents to acquire and apply the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the role as their child's primary teacher. Parents become empowered to support their child through their educational process. Some of the sessions provided for parents include reading, math, cultural field trips, ESL classes for parents and computer awareness programs. Often these parents return to school to seek higher levels of learning.
