The Olmos Elementary School Owl PALS will host a rummage sale on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. to help raise money for 32 students to attend Camp of CHAMPS, a motivational camp, this summer. Food and various items will be on sale; Owl PALS will sell corn in a cup, sausage on a stick, sodas, water, pickles and hot dogs.
"Owl PALS teaches students that they have a Purpose in life, but they need to take Action in order to achieve it," said Victoria Martinez, Olmos teacher. "It also shows them how to be great Leaders, and make goals in order to have Success."
The Owl PALS, a club for fifth-graders, have worked with younger students during this school year. A goal this year for the club was to learn how to manage social behaviors and issues. They focused on: communication, anger management, organization, team work, problem solving and goal setting. The PALS also partnered with the Save The Earth Program in a Save the Animals campaign.
"Camp of CHAMPS will help students build and strengthen the skills we have focused on all year," said Martinez. "At camp, Owl PALS will learn how to: have unstoppable self-Confidence; be Honest with themselves and others; take daily Action toward their goals and dreams; stay Motivated during the highs and lows of school and life; connect with their true Purpose, which involves making a difference in the lives of others; and create their own definition of Success, which will lead to inner peace and a freedom to be their true self."
Camp of CHAMPS will also expose students to college life because they will stay in a dorm at Sam Houston State University for four days. All proceeds made at the rummage sale will go toward sponsorships for students attending camp.
