NESA theatre presents: The Cradle Will Rock
EVENT: NESA theatre presents: The Cradle Will Rock
DATE: May 8 - 11
TIME: Varies
LOCATION: Lee HS, Auditorium, 1400 Jackson-Keller

The North East School of the Arts (NESA) Theatre Program will present The Cradle Will Rock on May 8 - 11, 2008 at the Lee High School auditorium. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. May 8 - 10, and at 2:30 p.m. on May 11.

The Cradle Will Rock author/composer Marc Blitzstein called his show "a labor opera composed in a style that falls somewhere between realism, romance, vaudeville, comic strip, Gilbert & Sullivan, Brecht, Weill and agitprop."

"In 1937, The Cradle Will Rock's attack on steel companies that refused to allow workers to unionize was so incendiary that government troops were posted outside the production's Broadway theater in an attempt to shut down the show," said NESA Director of Acting David Connelly. "What happened next has become the stuff of Broadway legend."
