North East ISD has partnered with IBC Bank and CSIdentity, an identity theft protection company to host an educational seminar and shredding event on April 12, 2008 at Churchill High School. The shredding event will be from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., and the education seminar will run from from 10-11:30 a.m. During the seminar, representatives from each company will discuss:
- Why your child's identity is more vulnerable than your own
- What identity thieves are doing with your child's stolen identity
- Simple steps to keep your entire family safe
The shredding event will allow parents and local businesses to properly dispose of their confidential materials using Iron Mountain's truck-sized shredder. Parents and businesses are invited to join and shred away 2007 to prepare for complete identity theft protection.
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), it is estimated that more than 500,000 children are victims of identity theft each year. Yet, many parents are unaware of this ever-growing trend.
